I have recently relocated to Marion after living most of my life in Morrow County,
Ohio. I’ve painted for years, beginning as a young woman in the mid-1950’s. For
the most part, all produced artwork is for my own pleasure, although now and then
I see or donate individual pieces. I especially like to experiment and challenge
myself with respect to learning and mastering new art techniques. My artwork often
evokes emotions, and I put a lot of effort into promoting a sense of realism, using
lighting and colors to reflect my moods and project feeling. Favorite subjects include
moving water (waves) maritime and majestic birds, wild animals in their natural
habitat (especially big cats), and historic/nostalgic scenes. My passion extends
to almost all mediums, but I prefer copper foil scratchboard, water color and oils.
Currently experimenting with Sepia and black ink covering clay board that when scratched
away results in a soft, old and nostalgic image.
Education has essentially come from learn-by-doing. My art foundation is based on
working through an art correspondence source “The Famous Artists School.” This painting
and illustration course established all basic principles I use today (specifically
drawing, perspective, composition, design, and illustrative mediums such as pen
& ink, scratchboard, washes, etc.) I’ve revisited the correspondence coursework
several times, picking up valuable new techniques each time. Finally, several workshops
have been completed along the way complementing my training and applied-trade approach
to art.
I have won numerous awards, the most prestigious being “Best of Show” at the Mid-Ohio
Fine Art Society and the Fine Arts Guild in Ohio. In addition, I’ve been recognized
with countless first, second and third place awards at shows throughout Central
Ohio. My art also hangs in several public establishments, private collections and
I donated artwork to a worthy cause in Canada at Hambleton Galleries which was auctioned
off. Proceeds were donated to the victims of the Canadian fires.
